Mutagenicity Studies

The Mérieux NutriSciences laboratories can perform mutagenicity and genotoxicity tests. We offer a screening program to identify substances, agrochemicals and biocidal products that may cause permanent and transmissible changes in the amount or structure of a single gene or gene segments, a block of genes or chromosomes. The aim of genotoxicity testing is to predict the genotoxic potential of a substance, to identify genotoxic carcinogens at an early stage and to understand the mechanism by which some carcinogens and reproductive or developmental toxicants induce germ-line mutations that can lead to inherited disorders.

Mérieux NutriSciences - Studi di mutagenesi

Our experts conduct mutagenic tests according to good laboratory practices (GLP) and all worldwide quality and safety standards.

Mutagenicity tests:

  • Bacterial reverse mutation test (Ames test) (OECD 471)

The bacterial reverse mutation test uses amino-acid requiring at least five strains of Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli to detect point mutations by base substitutions or frameshifts.

  • In vitro mammalian cell micronucleus test (OECD 487)

The in vitro micronucleus test is a genotoxicity test for the detection of micronuclei in the cytoplasm of interphase cells.

  • In vivo mammalian erythrocyte micronucleus test (OECD 474)

The in vivo mammalian micronucleus test is used for the detection of damage induced by the test substance to the chromosomes or the mitotic apparatus of erythroblasts, by analysis of erythrocytes as sampled in the bone marrow and/or peripheral blood cells of animals.

  • In vitro mammalian cell gene mutation test – Mouse lymphoma assay (MLA) (OECD 490)

The in vitro mammalian cell gene mutation test can be used to detect gene mutations induced by chemical substances.
